In short

Notcoin began as a Telegram mini app: a game in which you tap the screen to accumulate points. In 2024 those points were converted into a token distributed on the TON blockchain, where it now trades. The game itself has little depth; what it is known for is the scale of distribution through Telegram's user base.

Key points

  • Ran as a Telegram mini app, so joining needed no install and no upfront cost
  • Points accumulated by tapping were converted into a token distribution in 2024
  • Issued on TON, the blockchain closely associated with Telegram
  • Notable less for gameplay than for the scale and low friction of the distribution

Definition

A crypto asset that came out of a tap-to-earn Telegram mini game, distributed on the TON blockchain according to points players had accumulated.

Notcoin was an experiment in how far the friction of distribution can be lowered. Receiving crypto normally means creating a wallet and managing a private key; Notcoin kept everything inside a messaging app people already used, cutting the steps needed to take part.

The game is simple: tapping increments a counter, bounded by an energy meter that refills over time. Multipliers for inviting friends or joining particular channels meant participants spread it themselves.

In 2024 the accumulated points became the basis for a token distribution on TON, after which the token was listed on exchanges. It reached an extremely large number of participating accounts and set off a wave of similar Telegram-based campaigns.

What matters is that none of this is backed by business revenue or a functional use. The token's price comes from supply and demand for the token; in-game points were never designed to connect to future earnings. Structurally, it is best understood as a distribution and marketing mechanism.

Watch out for

  • · With no functional or revenue backing, the price reflects supply and demand alone and can move to extremes
  • · Fake mini apps and links imitating such campaigns are widely reported; never connect a wallet or enter a seed phrase when prompted by one
  • · Distribution criteria are decided by the organisers, and taking part does not guarantee receiving anything

Frequently asked questions

  • Do the points I tap turn directly into an asset?

Not automatically. Points only become tokens if and when the organisers define a conversion, and there is no guarantee that a distribution happens or that any value persists.
